I woke up this morning ready to face the day! I called Lance to see if he had come home from the Bakery yet. He answered with a very serious tone in his voice and my heart sank(not knowing what for). He told me he needed to talk to me about something and to give him 5 minutes to put together his plan. Anyone who knows Lance knows that it is not very often that he puts on a serious, I mean business tone. When that happens you know he means business. Not being able to wait I ran downstairs to see what he wanted to talk about.
After some very deep thought and very strong impressions he knew we needed to make some financial changes in our life. We have decided to cut the following things from our life: iPhones, cable, internet, newspaper, Netflix, and the extra car(unless needed for Search and Rescue). This was a blow to my mind! I depended on these things to run my life now on a daily basis. I can't go to sleep without my t.v., I can't survive boredom if I don't have my phone to keep me company. Like at church when I'm bored I look up recipes. This is something equally just as hard if not more for Lance.
As we talked about not only the benefits but the blessings of this I knew it was the right thing to do. We had forgotten how to entertain ourselves and just enjoy each others company. As well as strengthening ourselves in the gospel. Planning a lesson or visiting teaching lesson was something thrown together at the last minute. Attending the Temple was something (not intentionally) was planned around the latest favorite t.v. show and so on. Studying the Scriptures was a thing of the past but always on the we need to do better with this list. We made a list of the blessings we could enjoy if we cut these things from our life. Having time to study and dive into Scriptures, uplifting reading material, take up a new hobbies, enjoy our time as a family, sleep better, and so many more. The biggest one of all is we will be saving $300 a month! That is huge! Not to even think about having to pay the cable and internet and extra things a month will feel soooooo nice. Hopefully that will leave more for weekend trips!
We will see how this goes! The first week we will be stricken with moodiness, jitters and headaches but we will feel so much better. So good bye my Tech world! I will miss you but I will certainly enjoy the extra benefits!

Wow! I'm so impressed with you guys! It will take so much will power, but after a good month, you will be so glad you did this. We've been trying to cut back as well. Good for you guys. The Lord will bless you.
Good job, you guys! Tim and I are thinking of doing the same thing (minus iPhones... we don't have those). I actually miss the days before I was constantly plugged into something. A couple months ago, there was a thunderstorm that made our cable and internet go out. Tim and I were like, "What are we supposed to do?" So we played games...Phase 10 and a special kind of poker. ;-) It was really a fun night.
I'm inspired. Way to simplify! Our power went out last week, and even though it was pitch black, I found myself walking to the TV and computer at least a dozen times an hour. Old habits die hard, but they do die. Good luck!
Just wanted to bear my testimony of unplugging. I do not take the newspaper, have TV or the internet, at my home and I'm still alive and happy! It probably will be hard at first, but you will find you have so much more time and money.
Also, just a quick advert for the library. They have free wireless, current movies, and the newspaper. I recommend tic-tac-toe for church. Hope you have a good experience!
I like your choice. We got rid of TV quite a while ago, and it has been great. The internet is still plugged in, though. We are a little weaker there . . . Good luck! I look forward to hearing about all the great things you do with all your freed-up, unplugged time!
That's awesome! We've been without TV for 3 years now! It's wonderful! And only using one car isn't too bad either. I enjoy biking! Now if I could just pull myself away from this dang internet!
You can do it! When we moved to our new place we decided to do the same thing. Just not to hook up all that stuff and it has been wonderful. In fact a year later I do not even miss TV at all. I look back and realize that it was a time sucker, haha! This will give you more time to be Martha Stewart and do your wonderful projects right?
You can do it! :O) We only have one car, basic phones, no cable, and the cheapest Netflix....it saves so much! Once little man comes in august you two will stare and stare all day long...he will be your entertainment!
I think this sounds great! I wish Mike would let us do it, but he needs the internet and his phone to do his job and the clinic, and he won't give up the TV because of sports.
I hope you won't stop doing your blog though. Just go over to the Dickeys or something.
As far as the benefits, I'm sure there will be many. I like imagining what and unplugged life would be like.
How will the world get in touch with you?!:)Good luck with that.. I don't think I could ever do that. I bank on line, pay bills etc. So I need it for that..
We have had to cut back some things to to save money though.
